In the papermaking factory, we will discharge three types of wastewater according to the process. The first is the waste liquid produced during the pulping and cooking process - commonly known as papermaking black liquor; the second is washing, bleaching water, also called mid-section water; the third type is white water that can be recycled on the paper machine. The water in the middle section is the remaining part of incomplete black liquor extraction and should account for less than 10% of the total amount. In fact, the amount of pollutants contained in black liquor accounts for more than 90% of the total pollution emissions from the entire factory. Therefore, the discharge of black liquor is the fundamental culprit that causes serious pollution in paper manufacturers.

The origin of foam in pulp and paper "black liquor"

1. When we add chemical additives such as bleach in the process of papermaking and pulp washing, these chemical additives will react with the chemical components in the black liquor, thereby inducing the generation of foam.

2. "Black liquor" itself contains pollutants such as fatty acid salts and hemicellulose, which are harmful substances with high viscosity and are not easily decomposed. They are the basic components of surfactants, which in turn reduce the surface tension of the aqueous solution and greatly increase foam formation. possibility.

3. Due to various reasons, such as excessive use of alkali, incomplete precipitation of rubber or slurry fermentation, black liquor is more likely to produce foam.

The impact of foam in pulp and paper "black liquor"

1. The production and processing of papermaking technology may be hindered or even stagnated, reducing production efficiency;

2. It will affect the surrounding environment, making the sewage unable to meet discharge standards and affecting water quality monitoring;

3. Foam will also cause large fluctuations in the concentration of the cartridge, resulting in extremely unstable paper flow. A series of problems such as paper breaks may occur one after another, affecting the quality of subsequent paper, aggravating the pressure of the pulp tank in the displacement press, and causing jamming in narrow places. Serious wear and tear will greatly reduce the service life of the equipment.

Therefore, how to choose defoaming agents is particularly important, because the media, processes and foam generation mechanisms of each section of papermaking are different, and the requirements for defoaming agents are higher. Choosing the right defoamer can bring about twice the result with half the effort.
