World Consumer Rights Day was inspired by former US President John F. Kennedy's speech on consumer rights on March 15, 1962. Kennedy addressed the United States Congress. In 1983, the first World Consumer Rights Day was observed.
Consumers International members select campaign themes each year to help mobilize global action on pressing issues affecting consumers.The purpose is to expand the publicity of the protection of consumer rights and interests, make it get attention in the world, promote the cooperation and exchanges among consumer organizations in various countries and regions, and better protect the rights and interests of consumers in the international scope.
